Economy RFID Keypad Access Control, 1,000 Users: overview

The SK-170 is an entry-level standalone keypad for indoor doors where cost matters more than a metal housing. A plastic shell and mechanical keys keep it light, it holds 1,000 users, and it releases the lock from its own relay after a valid card, PIN or card plus PIN. Shells come in white or grey.

The SK-170-E versions read 125 kHz EM4100, EM4102 and EM4200-compatible cards and fobs. The SK-170-M versions read UIDs from 13.56 MHz MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus, MIFARE DESFire, MIFARE Ultralight and NTAG2xx credentials. Read distance is 0–3 cm.

Enrollment uses management cards for adding and deleting users, and users can be removed one at a time or all at once. Door open time adjusts from 0 to 99 s and the relay output is short-circuit protected. The unit works as a standalone controller only: its 9-wire harness has no Wiegand data leads, so pick a 13-lead model such as the SK-120 if the keypad must report to a panel.

Integration notes

Wiring is reduced to nine leads, and the colors differ from our 13-lead keypads: red 12 V, black GND, blue NC, orange COM, gray NO, purple door sensor, yellow exit button, green and white doorbell. Check colors against the table on this page rather than a diagram for another model. No IP rating is published, so mount the SK-170 indoors. Programming basics are in our keypad programming guide.

SK-170 FAQ

Does the SK-170 have Wiegand output?

Its 9-wire harness has no Wiegand data leads, so treat it as a standalone controller. For Wiegand output or reader mode, choose a 13-lead model such as the SK-120 or SK-160.

How many users can it store?

1,000 users, each opening by card, PIN or card plus PIN.

Is the wiring the same as your other keypads?

No. On the SK-170 blue is NC, orange is COM and gray is NO, and the harness has only nine leads. Always wire from this page’s table.

Can it be mounted outside?

No IP rating is published for this plastic model, and it operates from –10 to +50 °C, so install it indoors. The IP65 SK-120 and IP67 SK-140 cover exterior doors.
