Rectangular ABS tag for steel assets: 79 × 31 × 9.5 mm, Alien Higgs-9 chip, 860–960 MHz, 5–8 m on metal with a 4 W fixed reader, 2.5 m handheld.
OM-160 is a mid-size rugged UHF tag for metal assets that suit a wider, flatter body than a bar tag: machine guards, electrical cabinets, tool chests, welding sets and metal cages. The ABS housing measures 79 × 31 × 9.5 mm and has a hole at each end for screws or rivets.
On a metal surface the datasheet quotes 5–8 m with a 4 W fixed reader and 2.5 m with an Impinj R2000-based handheld. Frequency coverage is 860–960 MHz, so the tag can be read on both 902–928 MHz and 865–868 MHz systems without a regional version. The chip is an Alien Higgs-9.
Because the fixed-reader figure is given as a span rather than a single number, design portals and read points around the lower 5 m value and treat anything beyond it as margin. Mounting position, reader antenna and the size of the metal surface behind the tag all affect where in that span a given installation lands.
Fix the tag flat against the metal through both end holes; the datasheet does not list hole size or an adhesive option, so check fasteners on samples. If you need a longer, narrower body, OM-150 (135 × 22 mm) quotes 8 m; for the highest range in a compact housing, OM-170 quotes 13 m.

Plan RFID for warehouse management: fixed readers and circular antennas at dock doors, conveyor tunnels, handheld cycle counts and on-metal asset tags.
Build an RFID asset tracking system: on-metal, ceramic and tie-on tags matched to each asset, handheld audits, smart cabinets and IP67 HF heads for tooling.
The datasheet quotes a span for the 4 W fixed reader with the tag on metal. Design read points around the 5 m figure and treat the rest as margin.
Yes, the tag is specified for 860–960 MHz, which covers the 902–928 MHz and 865–868 MHz bands.
2.5 m with an Impinj R2000-based handheld reader, per the datasheet.
Screw or rivet it through the hole at each end of the ABS body. The datasheet does not give hole size or an adhesive option, so check fasteners on samples.

Yes, RFID works on metal with tags built for it. See why metal detunes standard tags, compare ABS, PCB, ceramic and label tags, and test read range properly.
