13.56 MHz USB NFC Reader/Writer with Dual SAM Slots: overview

The PC-150 is a 13.56 MHz desktop reader/writer for card-issuing work that calls for secure key handling. Two ISO/IEC 7816 SAM slots accept secure access modules, the usual way to keep card keys out of the enrollment PC, while the RF side handles ISO/IEC 14443A/B, ISO/IEC 15693 and ISO/IEC 18092 credentials.

Supported cards and tags include MIFARE Classic, DESFire EV1/EV2, Ultralight and Ultralight C, FeliCa, ICODE, CPU cards and NFC Forum Type 1 to 5 tags. Cards are read at 0–4 cm, depending on the card and where the reader is placed.

The reader works in active mode, reporting cards as they are presented, or in passive mode, carrying out read and write commands sent by your software. The USB link runs at 12 Mbps and can switch between HID and CDC (virtual COM) operation. Host support covers Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7, Linux, Android and macOS, and a configuration tool plus USB firmware upgrades keep deployed units current.

Integration notes

Supply range is 4.3–5.5 V from USB. At 5 V the unit draws ≤ 250 mA in standby and ≤ 300 mA while working, so plug it into a full-power port rather than a bus-powered hub. It measures 110 × 80 × 16.9 mm, weighs about 169 g and is rated for −20 to +60 °C at 20–80% non-condensing humidity.

PC-150 FAQ

What are the SAM slots for?

They take ISO/IEC 7816 secure access modules, so keys used while issuing cards can live in the SAM instead of in host software. Your issuing application must support SAM-based key handling to use them.

Does the PC-150 read 125 kHz cards?

No. It works at 13.56 MHz only. For sites that also use 125 kHz EM cards, choose the dual-frequency PC-140.

Which operating systems are supported?

Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7, Linux, Android and macOS, connected over USB in HID or CDC mode.

What read range should I expect?

0–4 cm, depending on the card type and the surface or enclosure around the reader.

Is it CE or FCC certified?

No certifications are declared for the standard unit. If your market requires specific marking, contact us before ordering so we can confirm what is available.
